Day six and I’m still going! The other day I cast on for a new project (Startitus. I has it). I have a desperate love of garter belts, lots of socks and tons of yarn, so…

Photobucket

I’ve got a bit more than this now, but it’s going pretty well. It’s linen stitch (I really really love linen stitch) in a worsted weight wool/acrylic blend on 3.75mm straights. It’s going to have corset lacing in the back and I think the fronts will fasten together somehow, but I haven’t worked out what yet. This is my first version, which should be practical at least, and I’ll make another to fine tune the pattern in some wool/silk yarn I have.

And no, I probably won’t have modeled shots. Of me in my knickers anyway. I’ll probably put on tights then long socks over that.

I’m currently plugging away at my Karlsro sweater (almost to the sleeves!). Then I’ll probably work on the wwfy sweater in mohair for a bit. And then I’ll probably cast on for a billion things. Cause that’s how I do.

First: A small clarification. When I say I participate in NaBloPoMo, I mean unofficially. I didn’t sign up anywhere; I just want to try to post every day. Apparently the official NaBloPoMo is located at BlogHer this year (a site for female bloggers), but the point is all blogging, not just female bloggers, so… Unofficial. Feel free to unofficially blog every day with me!

For today: The projects I currently have on the needles:

Photobucket

The second pair of fingerless mitts for WWFY, same yarn, same pattern.

Photobucket

Shark mittens for Etsy.

And my Karlsro, which I worked on for the last couple of days and is now about halfway done. There are a couple of other things on needles at the moment, but I’m not actually working on them. I think I have a total of five wips at the moment, which is more than I’d like. Guess I’d better knit faster.

Sooo the other day I participated in a test knit on Ravelry for a pair of cute slippers. The pattern hasn’t been released yet, but I’ll edit this post with a link when it has.

Photobucket

Pattern: Options Slippers by KrisKrafter
Yarn: Two recycled wool/acrylic blends
Needles: US 8/5 mm
Hook: I (whatever that mm is… 5.5?)
Mods: Fewer heel stitches, blanket stitched the heel.

Photobucket

This was a pretty solid pattern, and it knit up reeeeeally quickly. It was sort of annoying to knit the upper and sole as separate pieces and sew them, but I like the two color effect. And also they’re super comfy.

There’s not a tremendous amount of things to say about these slippers, so instead I’ll tell you about some WIPs. I’m currently working on some baby shark mittens (they’re so wee!), a pair of black spats, and a single shark mitten to be used as a puppet. I’m nearly finished with the first two so they’ll probably go in the mail tomorrow. I’m thinking about adding custom knit dinosaur mittens to my Etsy shop, but people so rarely give me their hand length (it’s in caps in the description) that I doubt they would specify their dinosaurs. Maybe I’ll just say if you don’t tell me, I’ll do what I like.

Unrelated fun fact: I am on Twitter as Brinnanza. Feel free to follow me. I post things about knitting, live tweets of various shows/movies, and funny things people say. Sometimes I say swears, so be aware. : )

I’m back to full-time job hunting, which basically means full-time knitting and watching Charmed (which is the latest sci fi/fantasy show I’ve gotten into. I love it; it’s like Buffy except sometimes the characters are happy and there are more witches). This means there is more time for knit blogging.

I recently finished up the last pair of shark mittens on order. They look like this:

Photobucket

I also started another knitting project for me (even though I have two others on the needles at the moment). As I mentioned the other day, it’s Karlsro in some recycled wool. I went down a couple of needle sizes, and this is my sleeve so far:

Photobucket

Don’t mistake it for a swatch. You know I don’t do that.

I also managed to do some dyeing the other day. I recently recycled some undyed wool from a thrift store vest, and I dunked it in some dye:

Photobucket

Colorway: Sharks. For knitting more shark mittens, obviously.

Photobucket

Colorway: Gradiation Experimentation. I rolled yp two 50g skeins into loose balls and dunked them in a bucket of purple kool aid for a bit. Voila, two gradient-dyed skeins. Not sure what to knit with them yet. Maybe a striped something or other. Thoughts?

The thing about suddenly working (or volunteering) a full-time job when you’re used to having the whole day for whatever is that I have waaaay less time for knitting. And I have shark mitten orders which means I’ve put knitting for myself on hold. : ( I currently have three orders outstanding (one is for two pairs of children’s mittens).

Photobucket

I have all the parts knit for the first two pairs, and I need to put them together. The next pair is a bit past the thumb gusset.

I’ve also been doing some unravelling. My mother found a big red cabled pullover that I’m working on (though it’s a little felted). I also recently found a tan cashmere sweater to felt for my blanket. Which I have enough sweaters to make decent-sized, I just need to get around to doing the sewing. And I’ll need a warmer blanket soon because the weather was in the 60s for the last couple days so I got to wear knits. : ) I much prefer fall to summer.

So for the last couple of days I have been (and will be for the foreseeable future) very, very busy. I started volunteering at the local elementary school (here’s hoping they’ll be hiring….). This has left me with little crafting time as it’s quite a tiring affair, but I’ve been knitting a bit.

Photobucket

Here’s my Box 96 pullover so far. Have edging and lace yet to knit (sorry for the crappy pic).

I’ve also been working on a few pairs of shark mittens for sale. Still have lots of knitting to do. I’ll keep you updated. : )

Hello?

Well, it’s certainly been a while, huh? Two and a half weeks. Do I even have readers left?

I know it can be irritating to read posts that are just apologies for not posting, so I’ll keep it brief: As I mentioned before, I spent some time in DC and then I spent some time in the hospital (I’m fine now, it was a mental health thing). I just got back to Virginia Beach yesterday and spent most of the day cleaning.

I haven’t been doing a whole lot of knitting, but I’ve sort of been working on the first of a pair of Skew socks:

Photobucket

I also did/am doing some unravelling:

Photobucket
(A 60/40 cotton/acrylic with horrible seams)

Photobucket
(lambswool/angora/nylon)

Photobucket
(wool/nylon)

Oh, also, while I was in DC, I visited a yarn store (Knit and Stitch = Bliss in Bethesda) and purchased a skein of Malabrigo worsted in Noviembre:

Photobucket

So I’ll go back to the knitting and then I’ll get back to the posting. : )

I currently have a whole series of works-in-progress going, of various and sundry crafts. It’s summer and I’m unemployed, which means if I only stick to one stockinette-based project at a time, I’ll lose my damn mind.

Anyway, yeah. There’s the Box 96 pullover I’ve been working on:

Photobucket

Finished the back and am working up the front.

There’s the aforementioned Ivy sockettes:

Photobucket

A somewhat-secret project, which is a new design, which will hopefully be somewhat seasonally appropriate when it gets released:

Photobucket

And some sewing projects. I believe I hinted about this project a couple of months ago:

Photobucket

I took all the shirts (mostly free) I got from my years at UMW, cut squares from the graphics, and am in the process of sewing them into a t-shirt quilt. They’re sewn in columns currently, so I have to sew the columns together, but I picked up a large sheet at the thrift yesterday for a backing, so at this point it’s just a lot of sewing. I haven’t decided if I want to do an edge binding (probably not because JESUS that would take forever), but I’ll definitely be quilting and top stitching. Loooooots of top stitching.

Finally, there’s one last sewing project in the works:

Photobucket

That there is a stack of delightfully soft felted cashmere squares cut from various thrifted sweaters. I need about one more sweater’s worth of squares and then I have to sew it all together. Not sure how I’m going to do that yet (overlap and zigzag stitch maybe?), but I know when it’s done, it’ll be ohhhhhhhh so soft and warm.

So that’s what’s in the works. I’ll probably finish the new design first but I might hold off on showing it off until the pattern’s done. What say you, readers? Do you prefer to see the FOs as I knit them and then the pattern updates or save everything for the pattern update?

In a fit of startitus, I cast on for All the Things. Okay, just two things I wasn’t already working on, but still.

I started some socks in KP Stroll (Well, Essential cause I’ve had it for while, but it’s the same)

Photobucket

It was a 100g skein I split and as you can see, the outside was a different color than the inside. Which is possibly why it was on sale when I bought it. Luckily, I don’t mind mismatched socks.

I also started a Multnomah shawl in Socks that Rock Silkie.

Photobucket

It’s the prettiest shawl ever, and you should be jealous.

Also, there’s these socks I’ve been working on in Jo Ann Sensations Dolcetto (which has been since discontinued)

Photobucket

They’re currently knee high and I have about 20g for each sock left, so I’m going to switch to ribbing and see how far I get.

I have FO shots of the most recent Leah vest and when I do that post, I will have some Things to Say because I am thisclose to scrapping the whole damn project. It turned out too big and I had to sew some darts and yeah. Anyway. Look at the socks and shawl!

Okay, yes, it’s been nothing but FO’s lately (I have a lot of time). In my defense, this one took about an hour of knitting time.

Photobucket

Pattern: Ruched Eye Sleep Mask
Yarn: Malabrigo in Pearl Ten, about ten grams.
Needles: US 6/4 mm
Mods: None.

Photobucket

A. This was super easy and quick to knit up.
B. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmalabrigo.
C. It’s very useful in blocking out light and much softer than the sewn ones I’ve made (and then lost).

In conclusion: Malabrigo is great.

Also, here’s a WIP photo for you:

Photobucket

It’s another version of Leah vest so I can get this damn pattern out in the world. If you’re interested in test knitting, especially larger sizes, pleeeeeease let me know.
