I haven’t been doing much crafting on this trip, but I have been doing some cool things. On Wednesday I went to Niagara Falls with my brother, mother, and grandmother. It was super fun and we got really close to the falls. We parked on Goat Island, where we saw the Tesla Memorial and Horseshoe Falls:

Then we went of the “Cave of the Winds Tour”. It’s a bunch of stairs and platforms next to the American Falls. Here’s what it looks like from above:

Not too bad, right? A little mist. So we get to climbing (they give you ponchos; my brother and I elected not to wear ours) and there’s like, a lovely little stream coming down some rocks:

So we climb some more stairs and reach something called the Hurricane Deck:

It was aptly named. We got thoroughly drenched with Niagara river water. Completely saturated.

We went to the Three Sisters Islands, three tiny islands that used to be underwater. You can get right up close to the river:

So close, in fact, that I could put my toe in the water (it was cold):

We also stared longingly across the river to Canada, where you now need a passport to get to:

We watched the traffic on the Rainbow Bridge to Asgard Canada (that is its actual name):

I hear today is Canada, so three cheers. I’ll drink to that.

I’ve been somewhat remiss in blogging for the past, oh, two weeks or so. Sorry about that. In my defense I was out of town with REALLY terrible internet for much of that time. I went to Florida to visit my grandparents and we went to Disney since my grandparents work for the company. I, of course, brought my knitting to entertain myself in line.

I also fed kangaroos (!):

And made kissy faces at goats:

Also, this happened:

EPCOT has a Norway section. Because totes, that’s what you do in Norway.

Anyway, I mostly knitted sharks (I finished about three pair I think), but I did start a new thing which I will talk about later when I get some decent pictures of it thus far. It’s a thing for me because I’m taking a little break from sharks even though I have like three more pairs to knit. Bleh. I do like the income though.

Also, happy new year to all. I don’t really have any New Year’s resolutions (not that I’d keep them anyway), but my goals for 2012 are to be better and to finally move up to Fairfax and out of my parents’ house. I’m really hoping I’ll stick to that last one. I love working as a substitute teacher, but I’m sure I can find something similar in NOVA.

Hello?

Well, it’s certainly been a while, huh? Two and a half weeks. Do I even have readers left?

I know it can be irritating to read posts that are just apologies for not posting, so I’ll keep it brief: As I mentioned before, I spent some time in DC and then I spent some time in the hospital (I’m fine now, it was a mental health thing). I just got back to Virginia Beach yesterday and spent most of the day cleaning.

I haven’t been doing a whole lot of knitting, but I’ve sort of been working on the first of a pair of Skew socks:

I also did/am doing some unravelling:

Oh, also, while I was in DC, I visited a yarn store (Knit and Stitch = Bliss in Bethesda) and purchased a skein of Malabrigo worsted in Noviembre:

So I’ll go back to the knitting and then I’ll get back to the posting. : )

I have returned from my week at the Outer Banks! It was super fun and I had a blast playing in the ocean, jet skiing, playing Scrabble and relaxing with the boyfriend. I unfortunately took almost no pictures (too busy playing!) and I did very little knitting. I did, however, get a lovely tan. Also, I did snap this shot of Joe when we went on a pedal boat ride:

I also did some shell hunting and seeing as I woke up at five this morning and was out of the house at 7:30, returning to Virginia Beach at 10:30, I had some crafting time. With a couple little shells, I whipped up some stitch markers.

Photobucket

I like this one because the stripes look like Nemo:

They’re quite small; the Nemo one is the size of my pinky fingernail. I don’t know how long they’ll last (the shell are not especially sturdy) but I’ll enjoy them while they do.

Merry Christmas everyone! Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, I hope you have a nice, relaxing day (or as close to it as you can). I’m currently out of town at the moment (in Florida, visiting my grandparents and Disney World), and I won’t be back until Jan. 3. Fortunately, I’ll have some posts scheduled (and I’ll be in and out of the internet periodically, so I’ll be checking in and maybe posting). For example, I’ve already got a post scheduled for Sunday (day after tomorrow).

Happy Holidays, and I’ll be sure to talk about my trip when I get back. : )
