I did a swap! I don’t do a whole lot of them these days, but I did do an Alice in Wonderland themed swap. It was pretty fun. Here’s what I received from my partner:
Fabulous wall art based on the suits from SyFy’s Alice (which is fabulous by the way).
Minitote! Inside the minitote was Disney’s Alice tea. I don’t drink tea, but Joe likes it. So yay.
Here’s what I made for my partner:
I cross stitched the first stanza from the Jabberwocky. It came out super awesome, but let me tell you, I probably unstitched this sucker as much or more than I stitched it. I made a lot of mistakes. It did come out super great though. Even the back looks good:
I glued some felt to the back to make it all neat.
I also made a card:
I drew it by hand. Outline is sharpie pen and the colors are Crayola colored pencils. It came out SO WELL. I don’t draw really, but I can look at a picture and copy it pretty well, which is what I did here.
I hope my partner likes the things I made. This swap was pretty fun to craft for. And now, back to my knitting.
Sooo as I may have mentioned recently, I have fallen HARD into Star Wars fandom. I’m currently reading Wraith Squadron, which is obviously completely ripped off of Rogue Squadron but it’s so much fun that I don’t care. Related to that: I have recently started actually using Goodreads. You can find me here.
Anyway, I’m a big nerd and you know I make stuff when I fall into a fandom. So I made something. A cross stitch to be exact:
I used letter charting software available here and the blaster pattern from the original cross stitch here. I’m sort of in love with the result. It’s on, I believe, 14 count aida and mostly DMC floss.
The silver floss is metallic. Check it:
It was a huge pain in the ass to stitch with because it’s so slippery, but I made it work.
And now, about the hoop. I had a hoop that was the perfect size but I didn’t have the back. So I did some, um, construction of the part I had (I actually ended up breaking it so it’s rejoined into a circle with quite a bit of tape). I ran a line of stitching around the outside of the fabric and pulled to create a form for the hoop to sit it. Then I glued the fuck out of it.
Anyway, I love it. It’s sitting proudly up on my hoopla wall/door, which I finally got around to taking a picture of:
Every single one of those hoops is related to some fandom (Firefly, Angel, Avengers, BSG, Dr. Horrible, Rickroll (sort of!), Buffy) except for the one that says “Let there be love.” I’d say I need to stitch up some non-fandom hoops, but I really don’t. : )

So remember how I said I was going to be back with a FO the other day? I totally meant to. And then there was a huge storm and most of my evening looked like this:
Yeah. So. Here I am today! I did some cross stitching the other evening and ended up with this sweet hoop:
I used the pattern from Wee Little Stitches. I left out Hank and Jan, obviously. I wanted to do the Hulk too but I didn’t feel like making one up, so I just went with the three boys.
It was a super fun, fast stitch. I have no idea what count aida cloth I used and most of the colors were DMC but that’s because I got most of them from a kit I got from my grandmother and the colors were labeled. Most of my thread is thrift store or yard sale stock so I don’t keep track of the color numbers. I use what looks good.
Here’s a close-up of little Thor, who was the most complicated because he has about eight billion different colors. But he’s so cute! I love this hoop. LOVE.
I wanted to include a pic of it on my hoop… door, but it’s not up yet. Another time, certainly.
In between some swap knitting and fanatical reading over the last couple of days (I just finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo; it was fantastic) I whipped up a quick cross stitch for no reason other than I like to cross stitch. Also, Firefly:
I made up the pattern for Mal based on some pixel art of him and of Riley (from the Buffy set) to get the proportions right. I quite like how it came out. It’s up on my art/craft/geek wall:
Ignore the blur in the corner; the room is technically my sister’s and some of her posters and things are still up.
I’ve been making steady progress on the Hexagon Petal Tee. It’s going pretty quickly now that I’ve figured out how to follow the damn pattern.
In life news, my brother upgraded his computer and I got his old one. I ordered a graphics card which arrived today, so basically my life is going to be X FILES BIOSHOCK PORTAL BIOSHOCK PORTAL PORTAL Maybe a little knitting. So yeah. : )
So I’m pretty sure I told you I was doing a Whedonverse Swap, but I’ve sent my package and it has been received. I’m pretty thrilled with what I made and it was tons of fun to do. So here’s what I sent to my partner, Craftster use FaerieCyn:
One thrifted long-sleeved tee + acrylic paint + fabric medium = Buffy tee! I’m pretty please how this came out. I freehanded the B.
One thrifted tee + acrylic paint + fabric medium + Freezer paper = Dr. Horrible Tee! I made a stencil for “Horribleness” and hand painted “I have a Phd. in”. Here’s a close up of the words:
In retrospect I might have used a color that would show up better, but I was amazed how well wax paper worked as a stencil. I’m never sure if that’s what people mean by freezer paper, but I cut out the letters and ironed down the stencil and it stuck to the fabric pretty well.
I painted this Sunnydale High logo. I was going to make it into a notebook but then it didn’t fit and whatnot. So I just put it in a frame. This was lots of fun to paint since I don’t usually paint. And I think it came out pretty well.
Felt/hot glue Browncoats pin! I whipped this up pretty quickly. I may make one for myself to stick on a knitting bag or two. I like pins.
Tiny Willow with her tiny computer! I used patterns from Teeny Tiny Mochi Mochi (the groom with some mods and the computer).
I used a variety of sock leftovers and crochet cotton. I think they are super adorable.
My favorite piece is the one I did first, this cross stitch:
I really love cross stitch. And Buffy quotes. And Giles! Look at Giles:
I found a pixel set of Buffy characters (here and zoomed in until I could see individual pixels. Then I cross stitched that, with some slight mods. I basically adore how Giles came out and now I want to cross stitch all the quotes with Buffy characters. So yeah.

I received a package from my Futurama swap today! It is completely awesome and you should all be totally jealous.
Bender-inspired chapstick cozy!
With bonus chapstick! How did she know I am completely and hopelessly addicted to chapstick?
Two AMAZING ATCs. One has Fry’s/the Devil’s opera written on it (part of it anyway) and the other has URL and “Mama said Spock you out” which is one of my favorite lines and I keep meaning to cross stitch it.
Hypnotoad painting! Ahh, I love it! It’s already up on my wall, so Hynotoad can silently judge me while I’m hanging out in my room.
And finally, a completely bitchin’ cross stitch of the crew. Clearly we were on the same brain page with the xstitching. : ) Here’s a closer picture:
It’s completely awesome and I have it set up on a book case. My room is seriously not big enough for all the fantastic art I want to display.

My partner, TwistedTruth, received her package yesterday so I can FINALLY post about the completely awesome things I made her. I have been DYING to show you guys this stuff since I started. I am completely thrilled with everything I made. So here’s what I made:
First, the card:
Paper cut out, gold cardstock and black sharpie, covered with mod podge. Seriously, you guys. I need to do this paper cut out/pod podge delio more often because I really enjoy it and the results are usually pretty good.
Then a cross stitch bookmark:
I used the pattern that’s located here for the Professor then sewed some red felt on the back. My partner does a lot of ATC swaps, so I figure this could be a fabric ATC if she wanted.
Then I did some drawings, which isn’t a thing I usually do because I generally consider myself non-artistic. But I can copy an image pretty well:
Colored pencil and sharpie on card stock. My partner said she likes Pazzuzzu, the professor’s gargoyle. I thought this was a cute scene to sketch. I left the color testing on the side because I find that sort of thing interested, but she can trim it off if she likes.
Next is a somewhat more ambitious art piece:
Sharpie on card stock. Based on this toadily (yes, I went there) bitchin’ image here which is, of course, based on this iconic Obama poster. I am completely, utterly thrilled with how this came out and I am considering making another for myself. Because seriously, I’m toadily (yes, again) chuffed with it.
Last and not least (greatest, actually) is the pis de resistance, this fantastic stuffie:
It’s a knitted Robot Devil! Made in recycled wool. A pattern I made up as I went and which is probably entirely too complicated for me to want to write up. He has cardboard in the larger shapes and 18 gauge wire in the limbs so they can be posed. He doesn’t sit up very well but I think it’s a pretty good likeness.

I can’t wait to see what my partner makes for me but I’m so excited about the things that I made that getting stuff in return is just icing on my crafting cake.
So my partner recieved my Whedon swap package the other day, and I have to say, I am EXTREMELY pleased with what I made. It’s been a while since I’ve done a proper swap cause I’ve been busy, but this swap was just the thing to flex my themed-crafting muscles. Plus I’m totally obsessed with the Whedonverse, so this was perfect!
In addition to the Willow doll I made that I showed you last week, I made two other things, both involving the same craft (plus another one). The first thing I made after Willow was a cross stitch:
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal! Plus dinosaurs (which I just sort of made up as I went). I used a font generator (I used the Amsterdam font) for the quote pattern, and I have to say, I love the look of this font in cross stitch.
I did some coloring in of the dinos with pastels as I did not want to fill them in with cross stitch (that would take FOREVER) and I didn’t want them to just be white. I think it came out pretty well.
The last thing I made, which took me til Tuesday to figure out and til Wednesday night to finish making (and the swap deadline was Thursday) was a zipper pouch:
With a cross stitched Kaylee from Shindig! I used this pattern for Kaylee and did the same pastel shading for her face cause I didn’t have white girl flesh-colored thread. Though I did pick some up at Michael’s the other day.
The lining is just some polyester muslin-type stuff I pulled out of a thrift store curtain.
I super love how this came out, cause guys? THIS IS LIKE QUILTING. I notoriously lack the patience for quilting because you need like, straight lines and corners and constant pressing. Who has time for that? I’d rather just crochet an afghan. But I managed to piece the front of this pouch together without too much trouble (and I did press everything often). I also actually used my zipper foot to install the zipper which made it approximately a billion times easier to do.
Still working on the giant man socks. I’m almost halfway up the leg. The end is in sight!
Seeing as I don’t have anything finished to show you (yet), I thought I’d show everything I’m working on. There are several things, none of which are particularly close to being finished, unfortunately.
First, there’s a cross stitch project:
I’m working on filling the background with a million little black x’s, and they’re taking forever.
Next, there’s a knitting project:
That would be a beautiful turned hem (god, I love turned hems) for a pair of Lakeside socks for a trade on Ravelry. They’re knit in Fleece Artist Nyoni and in return I received:
a skein of DIC Knitsophy (bottom) and a skein of STR Silkie (top).
Last is an embroidery project. Just a little teaser of this one:
It’s for a Battlestar Galactica swap I’m doing over on Craftster. I’m really pleased with how it’s coming so far, and I can’t wait to show you all when it’s finished.
