I finished another thing today. A pair of baby shark mittens for an Etsy customer:

Yarn: Cascade Ecological Wool and Vally Northampton
Needles: US 6/4 mm
They’re tiny and adorable and took like five minutes to knit. I love shark mittens, especially baby ones.
In other news, I’m considering listing custom dino mittens on my Etsy. I only have one skein of green Lamb’s Pride, so I can only do like two pairs before I have to order more, but does anyone think there’d be interest? I know the dino mitts pattern has sold a lot less well than the sharks, but there’s no harm in listing the mittens I guess.
In other news: Another NaBloPoMo post accomplished.
So I am not going to Rhinebeck aka the NY Sheep and Wool Festival. And I am exceedingly jealous. I’d really love to go to a fiber festival, but sadly, there are very few near me, in the middle of Virginia. If all goes according to plan (meaning I can wrangle someone into driving me there), I WILL be attending Maryland Sheep and Wool in May (which I expect to be grossly hot). I’d love to be going to Rhinebeck, but alas, it is not so. I’ll just count down the days until MS&W (which incidentally is the weekend before I graduate from college and become a Real Adult). So, yay.
In other knitting news, I have been knitting like a fiend. I just finished up a pair of shark mittens for an Etsy customer:

Pattern: Ridiculously Easy Mary Jane Slippers
Yarn: Some pink acrylic nonsense and Jo Ann Sensations Rainbow Boucle (which is also some acrylic nonsense).
Needles: US 7/4.5 mm
Mods: Added the knitted-on icord border which, by the way, was a pain in the ass to knit.
I think they’re pretty cute. Perhaps I’ll make some for myself one of these days. In wool. Because I love wool.
I also whipped up this little pouch, which was also a pain in the ass and Leah, my Brother sewing machine, tried to eat it. Fortunately, it came out looking pretty nice:
Currently, as I mentioned, I am working on a pair of shark mittens and then I will begin knitting like a mad woman to attempt to finish the cape for my Halloween costume in time for Halloween. It’s gonna be close, and I suspect I’ll be staying up late on Friday (I’m going to a party on Saturday, I think) trying to finish. It almost certainly won’t be blocked, but I am going to try my damnedest to get the thing finished at least.
And then maybe write a pattern for it or something. One step at a time.

Baby shark mittens are adorable. They are also hella quick, despite what the Ravelry project page will tell you about the time I spent knitting them (it says like a week, but I was working on other things). Also, I love knitting shark mittens. They’re so cute and fun. : ) Definitely one of my favorite things I’ve ever knit.
In other knitting news: Socktoberfest is fast approaching. And I knit socks now. So THAT’S HAPPENING. I’m planning to knit as many socks as I can (plus my Halloween cape. And a Liesl sweater for a WWFY swap). I think I can probably do at least one. Both the sweaters are in worsted weight, at any rate.
So Socktoberfest. Who’s with me?
For the August iteration of Ongoing Wish Swap, I claimed Juicebox29for some cold weather goodness, when I decided to make in the form of pretty mittens:
Pattern: Bella’s Mittens
Yarn: Jo Ann Sensations Rainbow Classic, a furry bulky acrylic I’ve had forever.
Needles: US 8/5mm
Mods: None, really. I had intended to make the cuff shorter but then I… didn’t.
I like how these came out. Not enough to make them for myself, probably, but I do like them. Even in this fuzzy acrylic. It is a pretty color (I did buy it for a reason), but in general I prefer working with smooth wool.
I like these mittens a lot, as I said, and the pattern is good, if a little confusing. There are definite pattern repeats, especially of the cuff, but the instructions are written line by line so there’s no way to really memorize the pattern. I would have liked a chart I think. Still, they came out pretty well, even if I did goof and cross the cables every six rows instead of every seven. Oh well. Cute, as I said.

(The model, btw, is my brother, whose fingers are waaaay to long for the mittens but whom I shanghaied into modeling because his learning to drive is using up the gas I pay for with no input from him)

You know, I really like knitting shark mittens. The pattern is definitely my most successful pattern to date (by a landslide). The result, I think, is super cute, and they’re pretty fast. I made this pair in like three days. I like ’em.
In other knitting news, I am still working on the Crocus socks. I’ll try to snap a picture of them sometime tomorrow so you can see where I am. I’ve also recently made a couple of OWS claims, so I have a cold weather set (probably a hat and shorter Bella Mittens) and a pair of slippers to make (plus some notecards). Fortunately, those are all really quick knits, so I’ll be able to knock them out pretty quickly. I’ve started (like today) watching Firefly (it’s on Netflix), so they’ll all be things I can knit up in a couple of episodes.
Yeah. Ahem. Anyway, I occasionally knit for money. Or yarn, as the case may be. Ahem. Look! Knits!
Pattern: Sort of Paton’s Monkey Around Sock Monkey, but I also just made things up as I went.
Yarn: Acrylic stuff from my acrylic stash. The blue came from a learn-to-knit kit, I think.
Needles: US 5/3.75 mm dpns
Mods: Many, since I just looked at the basic shapes and knit as I pleased.
Inn’t he cute? I knit him for a woman I know at school. Her daughter is pregnant and loves sock monkeys, so she commissioned me to make one for her! It was tons of fun to make and it came out super cuddly and wonderful and I briefly considered knitting one for me. Only to be stopped when I remembered I have no need or space for stuffed animals. He’s cute though.

I’m pleased I was “hired” to make these cause I’ve been wanting to try out the smallest size of my pattern but had no kids to knit for. I think they came out cute. : )
I also sent along this card:
The picture is cut out from a little picture book of dinos I got at a library book sale. It’s highly unscientific (it’s from like, the 80s I think, but there are nice pictures. I think I’ll make a similar one and send it to Joe. : )
The arrangement for these mittens was set up through the Ravelry group Will Work for Yarn. As such, I was paid in yarn: One lovely, wonderful skein of Dream in Color Smooshy in colorway “Punky Fuchsia”. It will become socks. With contrast heels and toes because the yarn is 100% superwash merino, and I will wear through that shit in a hot second. I need some nylon in my socks. So I’ll just add some with leftovers of another sock yarn.
So I claimed for another round of OWS, as I said before. This round, I claimed luckdragon for Domo-Kun fingerless mitts and some amiguruimi, both of which turned out to be for her daughter. So this is what I made:
Pattern: My own, which I based on pictures of mitts on Craftster.
Yarn: Cascade 220 Superwash in brown and some random red wool.
Needles: US 7/4.5 mm
They’re cute. The eyes were a pain to sew on. The teeth are quilt batting since I didn’t have felt. They were also sort of a pain. Also, I tried out a new thumb gusset on these, and I think I’ll be using it from now on since it makes more sense.
And now the amigurumi (which I knitted, mostly):
Pattern: My own, which I made up mostly on the spot.
Yarn: Cascade 220
Needles: US 4/whatever metric size that is
He’s a little top heavy, but super cute. I started him before the Ravelympics started, then took a break from my sweater on Saturday to finish him up. I like him. His body and head/trunk were knit in one piece, and I crocheted the ears and legs. It was much easier that way than dealing with five dpns to knit four little legs.
Pattern: My own, which I totally just made up.
Yarn: Red Heart Heart and Sole in Watercolor Stripes
Needles: US 1

I wasn’t going to do the teeth, but I cut them out and they looked so cute, so I left them in. : ) This little guy is my favorite.
So now I’m expecting two OWS packages (plus some various other things I’ve ordered which I’ll probably show you whenever they get there). One of them was sent out today. The other isn’t due for another week (though I haven’t heard from her either, even just about my address). I really dislike getting flaked on, but at least the people I sent to are productive swappers that don’t flake (as far as I know).
(By the way, here’s what the Rav sweater looks like today:)
Body is done up to the armpits. Now need to finish and attach the sleeves, then do the yoke. I am flyin’ through this baby.
Knitting that is. I’ve done few commissions over the last couple of weeks:
Bufanda Del Diablo
Pattern: It’s garter stitch. Seriously.
Yarn: Lion Brand Fancy Fur in “Bold Black”. Three skeins.
Needles: US 15/10 mm
So, yes, Bufada Del Diablo. The Devil’s Scarf. A, novelty yarn. B, two strands. C, apparently the two skeins I had in my stash weren’t enough, so I literally drove all around town today trying to hunt down more. I tried Dollar Tree, Big Lots, Michael’s, and two different Tuesday Mornings before I found a skein in a clearance bin in AC Moore. BAH.
Anyway, this scarf is for one of my mother’s friends at work. She’s paying me for it, so it’s not like I just make scarves and run all over town for random people my mother knows. I am giving her a cut rate deal though, mostly cause it helped get the damn yarn out of my stash.

These mittens are for a girl I know at school. I was in the post office at school before break, and I had my mittens on cause it was cold. She complimented them and asked where I got them. When I told her I made them, she asked if I do commissions. And I most certainly do. : )

Pattern: My Tissue Cozy.
Yarn: Lily Sugar ‘N’ Cream in Hot Pink, Strawberry, and Playtime
Needles: US 6/4 mm
I don’t actually have a recipient in mind for these, as I’m putting them up for sale on my Etsy and my Artfire. Or, I will. At some point. Yeah.
And last but not least, this cowl:
Pattern: None. It’s a garter stitch rectangle with buttons and button holes.
Yarn: A strand of vintage wool and a strand of acrylic
Needles: Uh… US 9 or 10? I don’t remember.
A big, chunky cowl to keep you warm for winter. : ) The buttons are hand-made by me out of Fimo (or similar brand; I don’t recall) clay. It’s super cozy, and I’d keep it for myself but I can only use so many cowls, ya know? Available on Etsy or Artfire.

So these are finally finished and gifted to the boyfriend for a birthday/early Christmas gift. They came out really well, I think, and he loves them. : ) I suspect there will be epic dino vs. shark battles this winter (especially since I might knit my sister a pair of one dino and one shark for Christmas).
As for the pattern: It’s mostly finished because the base mitten is the same as the sharks. Really, the only thing that’s holding it back from being done is that I have to knit up a stegasaurus both because I need to knit the plates to write up a pattern and because I want some pictures of a steg to put in the pattern.
So I’m sort of working on it. I suspect it’ll be available sometime in the next month (cause I’m home for winter break).
Coming up more immediately: Swap stuff. I’m spinning away. A couple of finished knits. You know.
