So I joined another swap, even though I said I wouldn’t. This was a small one: we just had to craft two bookmarks based on the themes our partner gave us. My partner was beeker and she made me some awesome bookmarks:
My themes were knitting, art deco, dinos/animals, and Star Wars/space. The first two were for me, but I aimed the second two at my lovely boyfriend. It was a quick, easy swap and I figured I only read one book at a time so I only need one bookmark (and I have two), and he reads about as voraciously as I do. : ) So the dino one is for him (I told this to my partner, btw, so no surprise handing off of crafty goodness).
Here are the ones I made for her (her themes were Beatles, red, pink, and leaves):
I loooove the red one, and I’m not quite as happy with the Beatles one. But I still like it and I am quite pleased with the dictionary definition of love bit. I shall definitely be making more thread crochet bookmarks as it was quite easy and I scored a bunch of crochet thread at the thrift store. Random stuff at this particular store (Goodwill Outlet) is something like 59 cents a pound and my total (which included a somewhat heavy roll of contact paper/stickable vinyl) was only 74 cents. SCORE! Anyway, the bookmark took literally about 20 minutes to make and they’ll be perfect for Christmas presents for some of the readers in my group of friends. Oh, and to stiffen it, I just dunked it in a glue/water bath, pinned it out, and let it dry. : )

More on the Ongoing Wish Swap: I had two claims in a short-ish period of time, and since they both received, here is what I made:
For Leighi123, a crochet sandwich:
I used random scraps of acrylic yarn I had lying around and made up some patterns. There’s lettuce, cheese, hard boiled eggs, onion rings, and pickles. I really like how everything came out. : ) Also, I got to use up some scrap yarn.
and a tote bag for her son to use for the library:
I used the legs from some old jeans to make the bag and strap and some other fabric for the shark, which I glued on cause I hate sewing appliques. I love how this thing came out. I didn’t bother to line it since it’s just going to hold books, but like I said, I love it. I’d have wanted to keep it if I needed another tote bag.
And for AbbyRose, a paintbrush roll
Used some Houndstooth and some orange fabric I’ve had forever. The construction was pretty easy since I’ve made a bunch of this type of thing. There’s some interfacing in it like she requested so the bristles of her paintbrushes wouldn’t bend. I also included some felt and some kool-aid for dyeing, but I don’t think you guys really need pictures of those things. : )
I’m still waiting on another OWS package and also a rainbow swap package, so that’s coming soon. Also, I’m still plugging away on the Climbing Vines sweater (it’s taking FOREVER and I’m not sure why), but the last sleeve is ALMOST done. Then it just needs blocking and sewing and it will be ready to show.
So I recently participated in the Rainbow Swap on Craftster.org. Unfortunately, my partner seems to have flaked on me, though she has until Friday to contact someone before the organizers of the swap get an angel (someone else on Craftster to make me a package and in return, they get Friend of Crafster status for a year).
Since I am sure she received my package (which I’m kind of bummed about) I’ll go ahead and show you what I made for her:
Fingerless mitts using Peaches and Cream in fiesta and some black Simply Soft
Crochet bracelet that took me a while and I liked, so I’m pissed I gave it to someone who flaked on the swap.
Little pouch I wasn’t using anyway.
Shrinky-Dink jewelry, which I’m really pissed about because I love how it came out and the ring was a bit of a PITA to get right. Rawr.
I also sent her a couple of extras, like shoe laces, the rest of the Peaches and Creme yarn, an a flashy light up thing. Hopefully I’ll get an awesome angel and I won’t feel quite as bummed.
At long last, the items for the Craft my Wish Swap on Craftster have been sent and received by the intended parties, and I have finally received my final package from sg1psychopath, which came all the way from Great Britain and somehow managed to do that is less time than it took for Nikimac’s package to get from Virginia to Washington. *shrug*
Anyway, here’s what I got from sg1psychopath:
Sweet buttons (the red ones will probably go on my version of Lilith, which I think I’m just going to design myself), a phone holder, which I will make an honest effort to use, a bookmark, a little box with shells (which she didn’t make but had around) and a pillow cover, which doesn’t have a pillow in because she (understandably) wanted to save on shipping, and one of these days, I’ll just haul my ass to Michael’s to get my own pillow form.
And here is what I made for my partners:
For Nikimac:
A little itsy-bitsy sweater for her baby due in July:
I’m so excited I got to make this. : ) I used Lion Brand Cotton-Ease, US 10/6mm needles and the 5 Hour Baby Boy Sweater pattern. It’s so tiny and so cute! Now I want to make a ton of baby sweaters. : )
Also, this little earflap hat for her two-year-old son:
I freehanded the pattern top-down using US 7/4.5mm dpns, red Ella Rae Class wool, and blue Lion Wool. The earflaps were picked up after casting off, and there’s a border of single crochet around everything. I love this hat too because it’s cute and tiny.
And also this kickass apron:
Oh my God… This apron. It is my opus. Okay, not really. But it WAS extremely frustrating and turned out extremely AWESOME. I am kind of sad I don’t cook and therefore have absolutely NO use for any such thing because I really love it. Niki really loves it though, so that’s good. : )
I was going for a retro sort of look, and I think I got it. I found the fabric at Walmart on the day before send out (yep, I did this all the night before, as I do everything) for $1.50 a yard and bought a yard. And I used every inch. The white bits are pieces from various t-shirt scraps. The ruffle at the bottom was extremely frustrating and I did not enjoy sewing it on and poor Mary, my sewing machine, did not enjoy sewing it on either. She does not like knit fabric. Nor did she like this this, seersucker-ish fabric that the main bit of the apron is made of. But she pulled through like a champ, and it looks awesome. I am SO SO proud of this thing.

Amigurumi Fruits and Veggies:
With faces! Cute. Had to put these off til the last minute because I lack food-colored yarn at school. Fail. I actually intended to make many more of these than I actually did, but I ran out of time and also desire. And food colored yarn. So I have a pear, a lemon (which I made up and did NOT use a pattern for, even though there’s one on Ravelry), and an orange which actually looks more like a peach and I guess it doesn’t matter which. Pretty basic patterns.
A stuffed elephant:
I improvised this design using Vanna’s Choice, left over from Talia way back. It’s based on the crochet elephants I used to make, and I definitely like the knit design much better. Mostly because I prefer knitting and find it’s much faster and much less annoying. *shrug* I think this little guy came out looking pretty cute though. : )
Headbands for her two-month-old:
Basically some elastic and some fabric scraps. These were definitely a last minute decision, and I, of course, made them Thursday night. I like how them came out though. They were very simple, and I would definitely make them again given an occasion.
Decorated Notebooks:
The smaller one I got in a previous swap but knew I would never use, so I slapped on a carrot (one of her desire themes/motifs) and called it a day. The other one I am MUCH more fond of, but I went through a couple different octopuses before settling on that one. I think that one is adorable though. The paper inside of it is the innards from a small notebook that was missing a cover. So I glued some black construction paper to the spine, slapped on an octopus, and called it a day.
And because I didn’t make anything large like the apron I made for Nikimac, I also threw in two skeins of Bernat Matrix and two spools of ribbon. You don’t need pictures of those.
I’ll be honest. I picked the Matrix because I wanted it out of the stash. I have no regrets.
For my Grandmother for Christmas, I made her two dishcloths:
I used Lily cotton and size 8 needles. I think they probably should have been done with 6’s or 7’s to tighten them up, but I like how they came out, especially after blocking.
I also finished a hat for myself because my ears were cold in the Fredericksburg winter:
I used Bernat Alpaca Blends and 8’s (I think) I knitted it flat, sewed it up into a tube and pulled the top tight. It didn’t close all the way, so I crocheted a circle on the inside so cold air wouldn’t get in. I crocheted the earflaps and sewed them on. It’s very cozy and very soft.
I also made a pair of birds (lovebirds), one for Jon and one for Sarah. They’re cutesy and such, so I call them “lovebirds”. They were extremely amused by their gift. : )
I used a G hook and Lily cotton, plus a scrap of orange Red Heart for the beaks. I used actual safety eyes also. I love how they turned out.
I recently completed a swap with the theme of all things Chuck Palahniuk–Fight Club, Choke, Invisible Monsters, and the like. I made some awesome things and I recieved some awesome things. Here be the pics:

And my favorite thing, these fingerless gloves, so you can wear Tyler’s kiss without the lye. I believe I will be making more for my Etsy shop because they were such a hit. I’ll be sure to post a link here when I list them.
The glove bit of these is crocheted, and the wrist bit is knitted. The lip bit has about half a bottle of fray check on it because of the fabric I used.

Despite the fact that it is like, 75 degrees outside in October, it has been cold, and as a result, I’ve been whipping up cold weather things. Honestly, I like to make nothing more than I like cold weather things.
First: a crochet cal, modeled by the lovely Sarah (cause it’s easier to take pictures of other people, that’s why):
I mostly made up my own pattern. I’ve seen patterns for crochet cal’s, but they’re usually too wide. When I put my hair up, it’s usually low, so wider cal’s make a weird bump. This one is much thinner across and keeps my ears nice and toasty when it’s cold. I used black thrift store wool and an H hook. I also made one in soft brown acrylic, but it was for someone, and I neglected to take photos. Also, it looked the same.
Second: A scarflet, also modeled by the lovely Sarah:
Made from lovely soft acrylic with an H hook (can you tell it’s my favorite hook?). The buttons I actually made myself as well–they’re circlular plastic discs covered with fabric from a thrift store skirt with a horrible cut but a cool pattern (I bought it for purse lining anyway.
Third: not technically cold weather appropriate, but a hat, modeled by Sarah, which now belongs to Sarah:
I’ve been trying to make a slouchy tam-type hat FOREVER and I haven’t been able to find the right pattern. This was close, but I decided I wouldn’t wear it. Sarah liked it, so I gave it to her. She likes it and wears it.
Speaking of cold weather things–I’ve got another post in mind for more awesome cold weather things, but they’re part of a swap, so I won’t be posting them until they’re received (Mondayish, hopefully). So look for an awesome swap post soon.

Hello all, and welcome to the first post of my brand new craft blog, The Adulterous Whores Club, which (if you check the About page, you’ll see) is named for a high school joke. Here in this blog, you’ll find pictures of new crafts I’ve made, my attempts at pattern-writing, ramblings of ideas concerning crafts, and other crafty things. You might find special information or deals in my etsy, tutorials, and (maybe, someday, if I ever gain readership) contests. We’ll see how things go.
This is basically the beginning of my attempt to draw business toward my crafty pursuits. I enjoy crafting immensely, but I also enjoy shopping on Ebay, and as a college student, that’s not always financially sound. So you all get fun crafty things, and I get to feed my Ebay addiction. I say it’s a win-win situation.
So this first post isn’t totally boring, I’ll include pictures of my latest crochet endeavor, as well as a sewing project I’m considering listing on my etsy:
A cute little duckie/chickie that’s currently up on Etsy
A dpn/pencil/crochet hook roll. This is actually the third I’ve made of these. The first was to test what I was doing, and the second I made for a swap (I actually intended to make the first for the swap, but I liked it so much, I kept it and made my swap partner a better one). The third I made with the intent to sell, but it isn’t up yet.
A tote made from a t-shirt (a totally kickass t-shirt that I scored for $4 at Rugged Warehouse) and some cotton fabric ($.99 for about a yard and a half at the thrift store–it was actually a curtain). The print says “Chuck Norris can defeat a brick wall at tennis”. It also has a small pocket on the inside. I have a couple more sweet t-shirts, so I’ll probably make a bunch more tote bags. I used this one for a while, and I always abuse the hell out of my bags (I put so much stuff in them), and it held up just fine. I didn’t notice any tears or stressed stitches or anything. And I put a LOT of heavy things in my bag (water bottles, books, jackets, etc.) so I’m thinking it’s pretty sturdy design. I’m thinking I may list a couple of totes on etsy because frankly, I don’t need this many tote bags. I like making them, and I love that there are infinitely many awesome t-shirts to make them out of, but definitely I need the money more than the bags. : (
