Knitting done. Just needs seaming and edging.
It’s getting darkish and I’m in the middle of a bunch of knitting projects, so I’ll show you this sweater my mother found at the thrift for me:
It’s Shetland wool, fingering weight. Pretty sticky cause it’s Shetland, but I bed it would make good outerwear.
I’ll also say that within 12 hours of posting about my sewing machine and mannquin, I had two offers for both. I get rid of some stuff and I get some money woot!
I’ll get back to knitting so I have something more interesting for you tomorrow.
In cleaning out some stuff in my back bedroom today, I finally got around to photographing some things I’m trying to get rid of. There’s my old Singer sewing machine, Mary:
It’s heavy, so I’m looking to sell it locally (unless you want to pay shipping). The Craigs List posting is here if you happen to be in Hampton Roads and in the market for a sewing machine.
There’s also my first mannequin, Elizabeth Mark I:
Also selling locally. I like this mannequin and the size is similar to myself, but I like my adjustable one (Elizabeth Mark II, natch) better. And with limited space… Anyway, that one’s here
Sorry for the probably dull post today, but I’m still working on Karlsro. Tomorrow, maybe yarn. I’ve been recycling.
Day seven! Whoot! Anyway, I’ve been motoring along on Karlsro. Here’s what I got so far:
As you can see, I just have the sleeve, seam, and edging to do. It looks super wide and short there, but it need a hell of a blocking to lie right. I expect to finish the knitting tomorrow sometime possibly (there’s no school so I have no volunteering to do). The large gauge should make it go fairly quickly.
Day six and I’m still going! The other day I cast on for a new project (Startitus. I has it). I have a desperate love of garter belts, lots of socks and tons of yarn, so…
I’ve got a bit more than this now, but it’s going pretty well. It’s linen stitch (I really really love linen stitch) in a worsted weight wool/acrylic blend on 3.75mm straights. It’s going to have corset lacing in the back and I think the fronts will fasten together somehow, but I haven’t worked out what yet. This is my first version, which should be practical at least, and I’ll make another to fine tune the pattern in some wool/silk yarn I have.
And no, I probably won’t have modeled shots. Of me in my knickers anyway. I’ll probably put on tights then long socks over that.
I’m currently plugging away at my Karlsro sweater (almost to the sleeves!). Then I’ll probably work on the wwfy sweater in mohair for a bit. And then I’ll probably cast on for a billion things. Cause that’s how I do.
Today is the fifth (Remember remember that Guy Fawkes wanted a monarchy led by the church…) and I am five for five in NaBloPoMo. Today I finished up some shark mittens:
Pattern: Sharks
Yarn: Recycled. The grey is hand-dyed.
Needles: US 8, crappy Susan Bates circ cause I misplaced my KP tips.
Yes, they’re the same shark mittens I’ll be knitting forever. No, they’re not terribly interesting. But Target had Halloween candy for 70% off today, so I’ll be in a sugar coma if you need me.
So I finished up that second pair of Baby Fan Mitts. They look exactly the same as the first pair:
I believe I’ll be mailing them today. I also finished up the grey mitten part of some sharks, so I rewarded myself by casting on for a new project (more on that later).
GPoY stands for Gratuitous Picture of Yourself. GPoC stands for Gratuitous Picture of Cat (says me). I think I introduced Stretch a week or so ago. This is why he’s called that:
He sleeps on his back, spread-eagled. Frequently in the middle of my bed, making it awkward for me to get into. I’ll let him though since he usually sleeps snuggled up next to me, and that is super cute.
I am Brinn’s utter lack of impulse control.
Went to the thrift yesterday (Thrift Store City if you’re from Hampton Roads. It’s the best thrift basically ever). Because the one thing I need is more yarn, I bought some sweaters (and also a cocktail glass).
An Express merino sweater:
An aran scarf (that is annoyingly knit on a double bed machine)
Aaaaaand four cashmere sweaters:
I am completely incapable of leaving cashmere on the rack. Not sure if I’ll felt or frog it, but ohh, I can’t pass it up. It’s so soft.
I also found this hot mess of fug:
It looks like someone ran over a fox and glued it to a sweater. IDEK.
ETA: Dear Ani: This is for you:
First: A small clarification. When I say I participate in NaBloPoMo, I mean unofficially. I didn’t sign up anywhere; I just want to try to post every day. Apparently the official NaBloPoMo is located at BlogHer this year (a site for female bloggers), but the point is all blogging, not just female bloggers, so… Unofficial. Feel free to unofficially blog every day with me!
For today: The projects I currently have on the needles:
The second pair of fingerless mitts for WWFY, same yarn, same pattern.
Shark mittens for Etsy.
And my Karlsro, which I worked on for the last couple of days and is now about halfway done. There are a couple of other things on needles at the moment, but I’m not actually working on them. I think I have a total of five wips at the moment, which is more than I’d like. Guess I’d better knit faster.
Because I’m looking carefully this time, today is November 1st! That means NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month, to go along with NaNoWriMo) starts today! For today’s post, I thought I’d show you guys what I got in return for the fingerless mitts, the first pair of which I showed you yesterday:
The bottom two are Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk and Lang Silk Dream. The top is a bit of a mystery. The person I’m swapping with said it’s either Artfibers Ming (worsted) or Sundara Silky Merino (aran). I’ll probably stripe it with the Silk Dream for some pretty fingerless mitts. Not sure about the alpaca. There’s not a lot you can do with 71 yards. Maybe I’ll just pet it. : )
