Seeing as this week is my school’s spring break so most of campus is dead (I got permission to stay in my dorm), I was under the impression that the post office on campus was going to be closed as well. I was anticipating needing to stop any packages I’d receive at the Fredericksburg post office and pick them up from there. Well, as it turns out, the campus post office is open this week. And I woke up this morning to THREE package notification:
First, I received my OWS package from ehinder, who claimed me for throw pillows:
Aren’t they cute? I love the little birdies. They are squishy and wonderful and they are sitting on my bed, looking very pretty. Is it weird that part of the reason that I desperately want a place of own is that I want a couch I can adorn with throw pillows? Because it is. I have four I’ve received from various swaps, and I want to display them on a couch.
Anyway, next, I received my OWS package from padfoot, who claimed me for stitch markers and something from my wists:
Pretty! They’re a bit small, but they’ll be perfect for socks and anything under about a US 5 needle.
Bender embroidery from my wist! I love it! I already stuck it up on my wall (with a bit of packing tape–we’ll see how well that holds up). I am also doing a Futurama swap, and I had the embroidery on my wists for that swap. I hope Tygermane, my partner for that swap, didn’t have the same idea, or I’ll have two! Not that that would be a bad thing–it’s a lovely embroidery and I would definitely use a second one for sewing onto something like a bag.
And knitting earrings! She sent me the knitting earrings from my wists! I’m so excited! They’re so cute, and if I were doing anything today besides lounging around my dorm room, I’d totally wear them and show them off to everyone. I guess I’ll just wait until school starts happening again.
The last package that I received was two 4 oz. braids of fiber from Lakehouse Loft on Artfire. They’re very pretty, but there was a snafu with her wool order or something and they ended up taking over a month to get to me from my order to today. Bleh. They are very pretty though:
Corriedale in “Orchid Garden” and merino in “Storm Front Coming”. I can’t wait to start spinning them (though I have from shetland from Spunky Eclectic to spin first. Two-ply lace weight. Yeah. I’ll be a hundred before I get to these.)
Two packages came in the mail for me on Monday and I was thrilled to receive both. One of them was from Heini from the Ongoing Wish Swap. She claimed me for a clutch from my wists, and it is SUPER CUTE. I don’t know when I’ll have the occasion to use a fancy schmancy clutch purse, but it is super cute:
The package was sent from Finland on the 18th, so I was super surprised to find it in my mailbox on Monday the 22nd. Talk about fast shipping!
The other package I received was from one of my favorite enablers, WEBS. I ordered two four oz lots of Ashland Bay Merino in the Cranberry and English Garden colorways:
They’re both super pretty and I can’t wait to start spinning them up. : )
PS: The Ravelympics sweater? …We’re going to have a chat about that on Friday. Let’s just say I’ve run into a snafu.
Kudos to the USPS because even though I fucked up with my address on my most recent OWS claim, I got my package today anyway. Like, two days after I called about the zip code thing. They found it and sent it my way almost immediately.
Anyway, cjclark claimed me for a reusable sandwich wrap and snack bags:
She also sent me chocolate (which I’d already started eating), gummies, stamps, and the extra oilcloth. Yay! I’m planning to make another large snack bag out of the extra oilcloth, and I’m super thrilled about the stamps for their inchie-framing possibilities. The snack bags will be lovely for transporting snacks to class and while I don’t believe I have an immediate use for the sandwich wrap, it will be wonderful for transporting sandwiches to work wherever I happen to be working this summer. Yay! I now have a whole eco-friendly and reusable lunch kit! *is excited*.
Girl Friday, by the way, is almost done. I have another row or two of button band, then I need to do button loops (cause I didn’t feel like planning ahead for holes) and block, then find buttons. It’s coming. When I finish the ribbing, I can resume work on the ribbed shrug (which is on break because I needed the needle tips for the ribbing). For my portable project, I started a sock. More on that later.
So, I don’t know how many of you are familiar with the graphic novel/movie Watchmen, but it’s a highly awesome gritty social commentary that features probably the coolest villain ever. Anyway, love it, so I was super thrilled to get my OWS package from StephanieGravatt. Check it out:
Watchmen made out of Perler Beads! Here’s a closeup of Rorschach:
What I would like to do is frame them (Just mount them and leave off the glass), but I would have trouble finding a frame large enough to properly display them. I might also just hot glue magnets to the back of them and display them that way. Something.
On Friday, I will have for you an introduction to the new member of my crafting family. Then later, there’s some knits and some swap things. Stay tuned.
It’s been a stash-building couple of weeks. Last week, there was the green roving from the Ongoing Wish Swap (which I’m already halfway through spinning). Then, for my birthday, it was a fiber-pallooza! First, there was this wonderful handdyed green fingering weight:
(Unplanned Peacock Studios, Superwash Merino Fingering, Frog colorway, 100g)
It was a lovely birthday present from my good friends Jon and Sarah. (Thanks, you two!)
Then there was this GORGEOUS merino superwash roving from Fiber Optic on Etsy, from my fantastic, amazing boyfriend:
And THEN there was a new spindle! Whoo! Also from my fantastic boyfriend. : )
(Faux Jade whorl, .9 oz, from KnotMyDayJob on Etsy; yes I had to test it out.)
And then there were the Ravelry destashes. Let me give you a word of advice: Do NOT browse the destash board at two a.m. when you can’t sleep. It is BAD for your bank account. Exhibit A:
Crown Mountain Fiber Farm, In the Skies colorway, 8 oz.
Exibit B:
Regia Silk sock yarn.
Exibit C:
Five skeins of Knit Picks Palette.
So… yes. Stash-hance.
Whoo, I received one of my packages from the November Ongoing Wish Swap! Hika-Chan claimed me for notecards and a surprise. I received a metric fuck ton of notecards which are basically too pretty to give to unappreciative people. Perhaps I’ll just keep them and look at them. : )
Notecards!

(please ignore my creepy display head lurking there)
And a pretty box:
And tucked inside were more notecards!
STILL MORE NOTECARDS:
Awesome stamps:
Seriously, the sock monkey one is hella cute (and straight off my wist!). The block is a little difficult to maneuver so I think I’m gonna chisel them apart or something (DELICATELY–because it’s hella awesome). I’m gonna stamp so many things with sock monkeys…
Oh, right, why is this six now? Uh… cause I kind of signed up for the December OWS and claimed someone already, and that usually leads to two posts, one with things I sent and one with things I received… Yeah.
SO, coming up on chez Stitch Brinn Stitch: That hat I keep talking about (PLUS probably its free pattern), more swap stuff. Like I said, good think I got all this cause the knitting on Featherweight is SLOW and BORING and so not good blog fodder. Instead you get to look at pretty notecards while I squee about sock monkeys! Whoo hoo!
Okay, probably not. I’ll probably sign up for later rounds. But for right now, I’m taking a break from the Ongoing Wish Swap. I received my package from spectrumsparksie, and she totally spoiled me. She claimed me for felted soaps, which came in droves, and a crafty surprise:
The soaps are a bunch of pretty colors and scents: Olive Oil, rose, sandalwood, “floral garden”, “petal touch”, and coconut.
Stamps! Many stamps! And a little album that I might scrapbook and a book about marbling paper which I will certainly put to good use.
All in all, it was a SUPER AWESOME AND AMAZING package, and I’m so glad spectrumsparksie claimed me. Thanks so much! : )
(If you could sing the part in parentheses like “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey, that would be great.)
Anyway, my Ongoing Wish Swap package from PhoenixFireDesigns arrived at my house while I was out of town, but I’ve gotten it now and snapped a photo:
She claimed me for stitch markers and a “wisty surprise” (which I knew was a Tree of Life pendant). I love both things, but the tree is particularly lovely. Yesterday I went to Michael’s to get a chain to hang it on. : ) I don’t wear jewelry much, but I’m sure I can find and occasion to wear my lovely Tree of Life.
In knitting news: I’ve just started a project for the Ongoing Wish Swap (I know, again), and I’m also working on a tank top. And I have a FO that I never posted. Never fear, THERE WILL BE POSTS. : )
Sorry for the silence here, guys! I left for two weeks out of town on Sunday, and I haven’t really had any computering time. Just wanted to let you guys know I’m still here and ALSO, to point my fellow yarnies to this lovely contest over on the Martha’s Vineyard Fiber Farm blog:
To enter, you have to add ShepardSusie to your Twitter feed and tweet a link to the contest. While you’re over in Twitter, feel free to add me too: bsveum. Though be warned: I often swear like a drunken sailor and my tweets are mostly about my life (though occasionally there’s a bit of crafty goodness, like when I ramble about my love for Cascade Sierra and my dislike of nupps).
As far as crafting: I shall be back soon (ish) with pictures of a tank top (Lelah), a pair of gloves, and a swap package I sent out but forgot to snap pictures of. Stay tuned!
I finally got my second OWS package in the mail. Craftster user Lunanne claimed me for wool roving, a needlebook, and needle felting stuff:
I’m pretty thrilled to try needle felting and also to play with the wool. The shiny ones are wool and silk, which is doubly awesome and special. I think I’ll try spinning those. There’s not a lot, so I’m not sure what I could make with the yarn and I’m definitely not going to try it until I get better at spinning (which I haven’t done in a while). The other stuff (just wool) I’ll probably needle felt onto something. I don’t know yet. We’ll see. : )
