This is an experimental blogging day to try and push your creativity in blogging to the same level that you perhaps push your creativity in the items you create.
For today’s blog post, we’re going to have a contest!
I am working on a thing. The thing involves yarn, but it is a secret thing. A very special secret thing. If you can guess what it is based on the photo below, you will win a kit to make my Spiffy Spats (yarn, buttons, possibly a project bag, copy of pattern).
Here is the secret close-up photo:
Leave a comment with your guess and a way to contact you. You have until the end of blog week (Sunday night) to guess what this thing is. You may use whatever means necessary to find out (for example, investigating other websites I’m known to inhabit). Contest is open to everyone, regardless of location. If no one guesses successfully, I’ll pick a random winner to win the kit.
Good luck!
ETA: The more specific the better. Just sayin’.
Sorry for the unintentional radio silence, people! School has been kind of hectic.
Anyway, I recently finished knitting this pretty cowl:
(I have yet to take proper FO pics of this thing, but when I do, I’ll show them to you.)
Pattern: My own, which is currently being test knitted.
Yarn: A merino/angora/cashmere/nylon blend from a thrift store sweater
Needles: US 4/3.5 mm
I completely love it–the ruffles offer more coverage than the typical cowl, I love the lattice pattern and the turned hem, and the yarn is super soft and warm with things like cashmere and angora. Yay. I intend to wear it lots as soon as the weather gets cold enough.
What I am having trouble with, however, is a name for the pattern. Currently, it’s just called “Diamonds and Ruffles Cowl”, but I want something more interesting, so I’m opening it up to all of you: Suggest a name in the comments, and if I pick your suggestion, you’ll win a copy of the pattern AND the yarn to make it:
I’ll also pick a random entry from the comments to win a copy of the completed pattern.
To enter: Leave a comment below with your suggestion. Make sure you also include your email address or Ravelry username so I have a way to contact you. For an extra entry to win a copy of the pattern, you can tweet or blog about the contest and leave me a comment with the URL. The contest is open to everyone, regardless of location.
The contest will remain open until Sunday, October 10 at midnight, at which point I’ll draw a winner. Good luck!
First thing’s first: The winner of the fish earrings!
Congratulations to comment number one: Siobhan! I’ll be emailing you for your address!
Now for some thrift scoring. I went to the Goodwill Outlet this morning with my mother and for a grand total on NINE DOLLARS, I scored all of the following sweaters:
Three are lamb’s wool, one’s wool and angora, one’s cotton and linen and one (the green one) is cotton and silk. The cotton ones will probably become tank tops of some sort, though I’ll probably over dye the yarn. The green one with blue to get teal because although it’s a lovely color, my Green Leaves tank is in almost the exact same shade of green. The wool ones I may dye and either sell or have another giveaway on the blog because while I do love yarn (especially cheap yarn), I am running out of room to store it.
I finished an item from the challenge I posted about before! From these fish beads and little green beads:
and some jewelry findings, I made fish earrings!
I think the little green beads look like bubbles.
I made two pairs: one for me and one for a gift, as per the challenge. But who is the recipient of this gift? Why, it’s one of you lucky readers! That’s right: This challenge has inspired our first giveaway!
To enter to win these earrings, leave a comment below (make sure you include your email address). For an extra entry, tweet or blog about the giveaway (feel free to use my picture but please credit it to me), then come back and post a comment with the url of your tweet/post. There are up to two entries per person, and open to everyone (regardless of location).
The contest will stay open until Friday, July 2 at midnight EST, a week from today, at which point I’ll draw a winner. Good luck!
This contest is now CLOSED
Sorry for the silence here, guys! I left for two weeks out of town on Sunday, and I haven’t really had any computering time. Just wanted to let you guys know I’m still here and ALSO, to point my fellow yarnies to this lovely contest over on the Martha’s Vineyard Fiber Farm blog:
To enter, you have to add ShepardSusie to your Twitter feed and tweet a link to the contest. While you’re over in Twitter, feel free to add me too: bsveum. Though be warned: I often swear like a drunken sailor and my tweets are mostly about my life (though occasionally there’s a bit of crafty goodness, like when I ramble about my love for Cascade Sierra and my dislike of nupps).
As far as crafting: I shall be back soon (ish) with pictures of a tank top (Lelah), a pair of gloves, and a swap package I sent out but forgot to snap pictures of. Stay tuned!
