So as you all know, I recently finished up my cape for Halloween, which I’m totally counting as my number ten sweater of the year because even though it doesn’t have arms, neither do tank tops. Also, it’s awesome. Anyway, cape. Then I knitted some hats. And then I started another sweater:
That would be EZ’s Seamless Hybrid in Knit Picks Comfy Bulky (in Planetarium). It’s for my boyfriend’s birthday and modeled off of a sweater he already owns. At 40″ around (kind of loose on my small boyfriend), it’s the largest thing I’ve knitted and I suspect I’ll be at it for a while. I almost certainly won’t have enough yarn, but I’m going to knit through most of my yarn to see how much more I’ll need. It’s gonna be close, at any rate.
I also signed up for a couple more WWFY trades, so I’ll be knitting for that. And then I might take a break and knit myself some socks or a hat or another sweater. I do need more hats….
I finally finished the Liesl I was working on for WWFY.
Pattern: Liesl by Ysolde Teague
Yarn: 100purewool.com merino single
Needles: 6.5 mm
Mods: None, though I used the wide neckline and the picot bind off.
Don’t be fooled by the fact that this appears to fit my 32″ model despite that I made the 38″. I really did get gauge; the lace pattern is just reeeally stretchy and the sweater hasn’t been blocked. I’m sending it back unblocked so the recipient can block it to her measurements as desired, and also so I don’t have to wait for a bunch of wool yarn to dry all the way. I’m also sending it back button-less so she can decide which buttons are best.
In other news, my second blogoversary is tomorrow! Look for a special sale in my Ravelry store for readers of the blog!
So I volunteered to do another WWFY swap. I’m knitting a Liesl in 100purewool merino singles, which are lovely and soft and amazing. Currently, the sweater looks like this:
I’ve restarted this sweater like five times because the cast on edge didn’t seem long enough, but I think I’m going to trust the pattern and see what happens. It should relax during blocking anyway.
In return for knitting a whole sweater, I received 250g of sock yarn:
Two skeins of Premiere Serenity Sock, a skein of Lang Jawoll sock yarn (for ankle or possibly colorwork socks) and a skein of Ms. Gusset, which is lovely and beautiful and I’m so pleased I now own.
So yes. I’m gonna knock out this Liesl (which will go pretty quickly since I’m using 6.5 mm needles), then try to dye up the yarn and knit my cape so I can get my sock knitting on for Socktoberfest.
So that’s the plan. : )
So I finished that pullover I was working on. Mostly because I decided it was a vest.
Pattern: None, I made it up as I went.
Yarn: Plymouth Galway (grey) and a wool/acrylic mix I frogged from a thrift store sweater and overdyed from pastel pink to purple-ish.
Needles: US 7/4.5 mm
So yes, the striped pullover is now a striped vest. Which I may or may not write up a pattern for (I probably will). I really was going to knit a proper pullover with set-in sleeves and then I screwed up the armscye shaping, ending up with something like a racerback and the sleeves would have required some serious short rowing to fit in the holes. So I said “Fuck it!” and went with the vest.
Which I am actually very very pleased with. It’s hella cute over short-sleeved blouses and this way it won’t be so hot to wear indoors. Pullovers with sleeves are great when it’s 30F and I have to walk a mile to get to class but not so awesome when the inside temperature is like, 70. Yeah. So vest!
I can’t wait til the weather cools down and I can wear it with that blouse and some dark-wash skinny jeans. And my awesome cowboy boots. That is an outfit I will be ROCKIN’ in the winter time.
So, does anyone remember when I made this tote?
I made it out of a t-shirt and some canvas fabric like, two years ago, and listed it on my Artfire shop. Well, it sold yesterday! I didn’t even know Artfire listings stayed up that long, but apparently they do. Whoo! I take any excuse to make cute cards, so I’m including this in the package:
In other news, I did some sewing the other day. I needed another project bag because while I am mostly project monogamous, sometimes I have a couple, so I needed something to store the one I’m not currently knitting.
The outside is part of a dinosaur sheet I bought at the thrift store, and the lining is part of a pillow sham. I’m a big fan.
It’s currently holding the beginning of a sleeve (of the grey/pink striped pullover). I’m not done with the body yet (I just finished the waist decreases and will start the bust increases shortly), but the long rounds were a little boring, so I started the sleeve:
The sweater will probably take another couple of weeks (possibly less), especially since I have swap stuff too. : )
So I have not been blogging as much as I would like. Part of that is that I was sick in the middle of this week and wasn’t sleeping (four hours of sleep over two days is… fun. Not.), but also I’ve not quite settled into the swing of things back at school, and once I do, it’ll be easier to blog more often.
I have, however, been knitting. I recently did a swap on the Will Work for Yarn group on Ravelry for some swatches (for photographing jewelry) in return for a shawl pin and some leftover Malabrigo:
The darker swatch was knit it Malabrigo, so it’s more like in return for a shawl pin and a bit of yarn, I got to knit with Malabrigo, which is almost just as much of a reward as the first two things.
I have also been working on that sweater I mentioned before. It currently looks like this:
I’m up to some waist shaping at the moment. It’s working up at a fair clip–worsted weight and two-row stripes will do that. I think I’m going to love it when it’s done, thought I still haven’t decided if I want to .do a v-neck or a scoop neck. I’m currently leaning toward scoop (I do love me a good scoop neck), but I could still be persuaded otherwise.
I also just finished up a swap, but I’ll talk about that another time so I can show you all the pictures for it at once. I also think I’m doing another WWFY swap (involving WOLLMEISE, which I’m pretty stoked about), so that’s pretty exciting. I have lots of things planned for the near future (birthday present for boyfriend, capelet that I’m designing as part of a Halloween costume (and also just to wear) but for which I also have to dye some yarn). Stay tuned!
So I recently claimed gatheredthreads for a baby sweater on Ongoing Wish Swap on Craftster.org. She sent me links to a couple sweaters she liked, but I ended up making up my own pattern:
Pattern: My own, which I’m considering writing up if anyone’s interested.
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft Tweed, about 2.5 skeins.
Needles: US 7/4.5 mm
So I like how this came out. I ended up knitting too many rows above the sleeves, resulting in a cute little foldover collar. And open cables! Guys, I LOVE open cables. LOVE THEM. It took a bit to figure out how they worked, but once I had it, they turned out fantastically. Love ’em. Not sure how the sweater will fit or how it will look on the kid, but hopefully it fits well enough.
If I do end up writing this up it won’t start testing until my current test is done (the Green Leaves tank), but since it’s a fall/winter garment, the timing will work out well. If you ARE interested in maybe testing this when I’ve written it up, feel free to leave a comment or send me an email. : )
Also, in case you were wondering, I finished the first Lakeside sock! It’s done! I still have to knit the whole other one, but I’m officially half done. *dance*
Welcome to Raglan month (well, April apparently was) and NaKniSweMoDo number six!
Pattern: Featherweight, mostly for the cast on number and divisions.
Yarn: Regia Silk sock yarn, two skeins in a lovely pale blue
Needles: US 5/3.75 mm
Mods: Clearly, shorter body and shorter sleeves and thicker yarn.
Okay, it looks a little funny on Elizabeth because her wide shoulders and tiny tiny waist make her distinctly apple shaped, but my proportions are more balanced, so it looks a lot better on me. I like it a lot, I have worn it a couple times already. I usually wear it open, like the first picture, though I often pin the bottom closed with a bobby pin or something. It’s a great layer over tanks and tubes (I’m awkwardly uncomfortable in tube tops even though I have a ton of them). The only problem is that the back section is a little too wide, and if I use this pattern again, I’ll cast on fewer stitches for the back section. I certainly don’t intend to knit Featherweight in lace weight again (oh god), but I could maybe use another little shrug like this ones. It’s totally casual–throw on and go–and that’s great.
Also: the yarn. It gets a bad rap on Ravelry for being pilly, and I wouldn’t make it into socks because of that, but as a shrug, this yarn is wonderful. It was such a joy to work with cause it’s SO SOFT. Plus, Regia is a pretty great company. So yes. Yarn love here.

Bring the fortune and life of a past finished project up to the present. Document the current state and use of an object you have knitted or crocheted, whether it is the hat your sister wears to school almost every day, or a pair of socks you wore until they were full of hole. Or maybe that jumper that your dad just didn’t like that much…
Note: This is actually yesterday’s topic (and yesterday’s is today) cause I accidentally mixed them up. Go with it.)
So, long-time readers of my blog may remember (vaguely, in the back of their minds) this sweater:

I started knitting it over a year ago (February 17 to be exact). I did finish the knitting (had to buy an extra ball of yarn, but, you know) but I left it in the car when I returned to school from Spring Break, so I couldn’t sew on the buttons. Then I lost it. And then I found it again! But I never gave it a proper FO post, so that’s what it’s getting today (but the pics are on Elizabeth (who you haven’t seen in a while!) cause it’s like, 85 out today and it’s a cabled sweater in acrylic).
Pattern: Woman’s Cardigan from the Fall 2006 Knit Simple
Yarn: Vanna’s Choice (just over 5 balls in Burgundy)
Needles: US 8/5mm
Mods: Lengthened ribbing in the sleeves as well as the sleeves themselves, left off the collar (picked up stitches for a garter neckline), and didn’t add buttons.
I can’t say that I’ve ever actually worn this sweater out, but I do like and it is comfortable. It’s a nice lounging around the house sweater. I mean, it’s nice, and I would wear it out, but I have lots of nicer sweaters. Plus, it’s a little bunchy under the armpits because of my sub-par seaming. But other than that, it fits well enough.
Sadly, this is the end of Knitting and Crochet Blog week! Tomorrow we return to regularly scheduled posts, including a new pattern! Stay tuned!
