Man, the parade of FOs just never stops around here. I made some mitts for Anna-Marie!
Pattern: Susie’s Reading Mitts by Susie Rodgers
Yarn: Blue Moon Socks that Rock Medium Weight in Rare Gems Fire
Needles: US 5/3.75mm
Mods: I used a provisional cast on instead of sewing up the bottom hem. As usual, I mostly just threw the stitch pattern in to my basic mitts pattern
So these knit up super quick. The yarn is a bit light for what’s called for, but I think this worked out okay. Both Anna-Marie and I have tiny hands, so the small gauge means they fit really well. I’ve had this pattern in my queue for a while and I got a chance to knit it up here. I probably won’t make them again, but they are cute. I like the picot hem. But then I love a good turned hem.
The yarn was an absolute delight to work with. It’s a very round, dense yarn, which I really love with fingerless gloves. And hats. And everything. The color’s nice too, although I don’t usually tend toward red for myself (recent sweater project notwithstanding). There’s a considerable amount of the yarn left. I can’t recall if Anna-Marie wants it back, but if she doesn’t, it’ll make a lovely hat. (It will make a lovely hat regardless, but you know what I mean.)
In only tangentally related news, I think I’m out of FOs for the moment. I have several works in progress, so expect tomorrow’s post to be something that isn’t finished yet. Imagine that–you guys can see something I’m making it before it’s finished. Remember when I used to do WIP posts? It’ll be just like old times.
I’ve been on something of a towel kick in my weaving these days. They’re useful and I have a lot of cotton yarn. Here are some quick ones I whipped up the other day on my 24″ LeClerc.
This was my first attempt. The tension was… Bad. Really, really bad. I wanted to get a longer towel but I had to take the whole project off the loom. I have the warp though. Maybe I’ll use it on the inkle loom.
The next set came out much better.
I must confess I don’t know what the blue is. Some cotton I got at a thrift store. There are warp stripes of green Sugar and Cream but I’m not sure how well you can see them. I ran out of the blue and finished the warp with a recycled cotton/acrylic. So that’s the green.
They’re finished off with a rolled hem, super simple.
The fabric is pretty squooshy and I think I’ll get a lot of use out of them. I’ve currently got a big towel warped up using just about the whole width of the loom. I think that one will take a bit longer to finish as I haven’t been working on it quite so dillgently.
Life things: leaving for Virginia Beach on Wednesday. Joe and I finished the first Jedi Academy book and have started the second. Still watching Star Trek. Totally bummed I missed megacon, a con in Orlando, by two weeks.
Oh, and this Saturday is the Uniquities Fiber Market in Vienna. There’s another event on Sunday about an hour away in Maryland that I might go to. And Maryland Sheep and Wool is in less than a month and a half and I am so going. And probably spending so much money. Buy all the fiber!
First thing’s first:
That’s right people, FEATHERWEIGHT IS DONE. My longest wip EVER (since October) is finally DONE. I settled for 3/4 length sleeves instead of the full length ones I originally planned for, BUT STILL. IT’S DONE. It’s currently laid out on my bed, drying after a soak and I can’t wait til it’s dry. It fits beautifully (before blocking at least), and I’m so pleased with it. AND, the thing I’m most pleased with is this:
When I started Featherweight, I grabbed the pound cone of the yarn and hand-wound a ball of it that kind of looked like the 100 g of lace weight that the pattern calls for. I totally guessed, having only a 100g ball of worsted weight wool to compare it to. That little ball of yarn up there is all I had left of my original hand-wound ball after knitting THE ENTIRE SWEATER.
I’m so good.
Anyway, I’ll have a proper FO post of this sweater on Thursday probably.
Clearly April is raglan fever time (Featherweight and Seafoam plus…), cause I started a new sweater. It’s just going to be a little shrug, so it shouldn’t take that long and it will be perfect for wearing over tube tops (I always feel awkward in them). It looks like this so far:
I’m using some Regia Silk sock yarn I got in a destash on Ravelry, and ohmigod, it’s SO SOFT. I love this stuff.
While I was soaking Featherweight earlier today, I got around to another craft project I’ve been meaning to do. I went from this:

A bit of scrapbook paper and some buttons make for a much prettier pencil cup than the plastic cup I’ve been using. It was super easy and took all of five minutes. AND because of where the paper joined, the seam is practically invisible:
I mean, you can see it if you look up close, but if you’re just glancing, you can’t see it at all. : )
